Does the Job:
I bought this item to refinish some French patio doors. I wanted something that could get into tight areas and was easy to handle. This sander works well. It is easy to control and does the job. It does heat up which I assume happens with all belt sanders. It gets so hot that I have to stop using it or put on gloves. Working in 90 degree heat doesn't help either. The belts are not available at HD, Walmart, or Lowes. They are available at Woodcraft stores here locally. I found them online at a cheaper price... more info
It works great:
This is the first belt sander I have purchased and it is just the one I needed. Woodworking is a hobby for me and this machine was just the right size and more importantly, the right price. Yes, it does get warm but even after 5 minuets of continuous running, it was not excessively warm. I purchased additional belts (Mirka) online. I also found some in assorted grits at Lowe's.
Easy to use compact belt sander:
Bought this for light finishing of glue joints and edges of boards. The unit is very light and the rubberized hand grip area was very comfortable to use. Its weight for short durations is of no concern, but if you were to use for hours on end you will of gotten a very good work out. The ability to change to different grit belts was smooth and easy and I had no problems with it tracking off the rollers. I would recommend this to anyone for a nice small light use sander.
for non-demanding uses only:
PROS: small and light weight
CONS: gets extremely hot (too hot to touch), not powerful, tracking needs constant adjustment, non-standard size belts (may be hard to find) BOTTOM LINE: as you can see this is not a tool a professional would want to buy, but if you just need a belt sander for small work, then it may be ok
