Works as advertised:
I haven't had the opportunity to test it on deer, but it works pretty much as advertised. There's a radio and a light. If you move in its field of vision they both turn on, and it seems to be loud enough. In hot weather the swaying of the plants sometimes triggers mine, but that's probably because I have the sensitivity set really high in an effort to scare raccoons and groundhogs too. What they don't tell you in the owners manual: * It does not continue to monitor motion after being activated. For... more info
Question Bad Reviews:
I have 2 P3 Deer Chasers purchased in 2009, and so far they have kept deer out of our summer garden in 2009, and so far this year (2010),even though we have witnessed up to 4-5 large deer passing through near where we have it planted. I don't understand the "Bad Reviews" except maybe the choice of NPR as a radio station is a bad one...perhaps deer are liberals, but we use other stations, even if not "talk radio", and both Country & Western and some Christian stations seem to be disliked by deer as they... more info
Know what you're getting:
This device works fine for my uncle, which is why I was willing to try it. But he lives in an area where deer don't come into contact with humans as much. We live in a suburban area, but on the edge of farmland and woodland. So there is a real deer problem. They are very used to humans, so things like human noise, scent, soaps, etc. are not nearly as effective. In no time at all the deer were back to what they were doing and eating plants. The only ones really put out by this were the neighbors.
Fool me Once:
This thing is useless. Described as loud and bright. Well, its quiet and dim. False advertising to the max. I guess it only works on
international deer. Another piece of crap from China boys and girls.
