Fragile-- Handle with care:
I turn a lot of bowls, and I love the way the French Curve tool rest fits up inside the bowl, so you hollow it out without the scraper catching. But-- keep moving the rest closer to the bottom of the bowl as you go, keep your scraper sharp as possible, and don't try to remove too much wood too quickly-- because the tool rest can very suddenly snap off the stem.
first time bowl rest user:
I have been turning bowls now for about 9 months. I have always used a straight tool rest. I decided to try the Delta French Curl rest with good results. I use the one side for the outside of the bowl. This helps me do work without adjusting the rest after turning the bottom of the bowl. After reversing the bowl for the inside work I find the rest will make my work easier because I can move the rest in closer to the work. For the scraper I find it very nice.
