Two unique features make this tape a standout. First, the blade is coated with mylar to help it stand up to abrasion associated with repeated use. Second, the patented Tru-Zero hook doubles as a pivot for drawing circles and arcs, and it automatically adjusts to handle inside or outside measurements. What this means is that the hook on the end has a small amount of play that is equivalent to the thickness of the hook blade. This is so that when you measure with the hook inside a stop (like a window jam), the front end of the hook is the zero point. When you hook it over the edge of a board, the zero point becomes the back of the hook.

Lasts a long time:
I've owned the same chrome-finish Stanley tape measure for about three years and it gets, and takes, a beating. I've dropped my Stanley in a 5 foot hole full of rocks. We were using an auger to make the hole and couldn't stop to find the tape measure. A while later the tape measure came out. That was over a year ago. It still works and I've been using it regularly since. I work in Seattle - outside. This thing gets rained on nine months out of the year and dropped in mud and sand all the time. doesn't lock:
I bought this tape measure for my husband for Christmas. It was a very good price for a name brand, quality (I thought) product.
It doesn't lock into place. Yes it's a tape measure but the powerlock doesn't!

This tape measurer is fine, has a heavy duty feel and is a good value. The lock is a little stiff to operate but works. I was expecting it to be small, but this thing is rather bulky (about 1.5" X 3.5" X 3") and would not easily fit in a pocket. The dimensions given are for the packaging so it is hard to tell.
