Great book:
This is a good book for both the beginning pen turner and the pen turner looking to expand their abilities. If you do your own laminations you probably don't need this. This book has easy to understand instructions to get a novice started pen turning. Once mastering the basics, this book then gives detailed ideas/instructions on how to make advanced pens including some stunning home laminations. Beautiful photographs, superficial information:
I found this publication to be more of a "coffee table" book than a practical teaching guide. I was hoping for greater instruction on the specific steps in the process of making pens. Although the book does outline the basics to pen turning, I found the instructions and corresponding photos to be general and repetitive. This may be as much a criticism of all "how to" books as this one, but non-the-less applicable... They never seem to be able to decide who their audience is... (biginner, novice, experienced or professional)or they try to address them all, its really annoying. This book (given the availability of this type of book) may be the best (easily found), but I found it necessary to use a number of different resources to obtain enough information about related issues to be able to get off the ground in pen making.... more info

This is the third pen turning book I have purchased. This is much better than the others. It is easy to follow and very useful. I refer to it often for ideas and techniques. I recommend it highly..
