Not just for us do-it-yourself types:
This is a well illustrated, well written, easy to follow book on hardwood floors. It just overflows with experience and tips and gives you what you need to know, along with the 'whys', with minimal fluff. Its a straight-up, to the point book and I used it to put in a hardwood floor all by myself, and it was beautiful! The only problem I encountered is that I find myself now checking all hardwood floors for installation quality, and my kitchen, whose hardwood was installed by the builder, fails. diy book:
Informative, detailed, and yet broad enough to cover many floor types. Even though we are laying heart pine floors, this book explains all the steps necessary to make the job look professional. We have 4 rooms to lay so I must admit "practice makes perfect". Fortunately, the mill we bought our river recovery pine from, has been extremely helpful with any questions we have.

I prepared myself for my first hardwoor flooring project by reading this book. It turned out really good (according to my wife). Without this book, however, it would be hidden underneath a new carpet right now!
Too many DIY books are written by technical writers who work for companies that supply product. They suffer from a marketing agenda and a lack of real-world experience. Others are written by some guy who did it the first time, and took pictures to write a book.

CANT GO WRONG FOR THE PRICE.:
I purchased this to learn how to install hardwood floors in my home. I believe i paid about 15 dollars total with shipping. The book wont make you a hardwood pro, but will give more than a sufficient foundation to install flooring. Its an older book but the techniques being used today are still the same. I found it very helpful especially for determining the starting points, and how to measure and or come up with a starting point.
